Speak out against Congress members who are trying to remove protections for America's untouched wilderness.
Certain members of Congress are trying to pass The Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act (H.R. 1581/S. 1087) in order to make way for industrialization in wilderness areas that have been protected for decades.
If this legislation passes, much of California's remote land, including its beautiful Sierra Nevada mountain range, will be open for industrial expansion. This means that developers will now have the option to build businesses, roads, mines, and logging ventures — thereby endangering countless species of plants and animals that exist in the mountains, forests, and deserts in this area.
Protected for decades against industrialization, this stretch of land is now in grave danger. Urge President Obama to reject H.R. 1581 should it reach his desk.
The Petition:
Dear President Obama,
I am very concerned about a piece of legislation that is currently circulating through Congress. The Wilderness and Roadless Area Release Act (H.R. 1581/S. 1087) would open up some 60 million acres of American forest, mountain, and desert land that has been protected for decades against commercial industrialization.
There are individuals in Congress who would like to see this land decimated and overrun with lucrative ventures such as logging, mining, and commercial business.
But we cannot put a price on this precious land. Making way for industrialization will no doubt threaten the survival of all plant and animal species that live there.
If H.R. 1581 should pass and reach your desk for final signing, I kindly ask that you reject the proposal and take a stand toward protecting our untouched wilderness.
Thank you for your consideration on this important matter.
